Travel outside UK before starting working

Hi all, I have just switched from Tier 4 to Tier 2 (General) and got the BRP card. My job starts from early Jan 2017. I am planning to travel during the Christmas outside UK. But I am not sure will I be allowed to enter UK before the work start date? At the airport, which visa should I show to the officer? My student visa (until mid Jan 2017) or the new Tier 2 BRP? Many thanks!

You only have ONE visa. Your student visa would have been cancelled when the Tier 2 was issued. You can't hold two visas at the same time.

Thanks! But can I travel outside UK now and re-enter UK before the work start date?

You have a valid visa don't you? So why do you think you cannot travel?
