Amount of money visitor requires

We're sponsoring a relatives visit to UK (their first ever visit). Though we're the sponsor we were not contacted by UKVI.

Does the immigration officer upon arrival in UK ask visitor how much currency they've brought?


Someone informed them this is asked, but I don't know. Could someone who's had a visitor here confirm this?

Due to the demonetisation problems in India since last they've had problem getting currency to exchange for sterling pounds. They have got a small amount of currency. Not sure what adequate amount is for a 4 week period?

Does this matter if they are sponsored? Does UK immigration officer have all this information beforehand.

Thanks in advance for any advice on money or any other potential questions they could be asked. It's their first visit and they're quite young, so want to make sure they're fully informed.

Probably more important to be accurate in proposed trip duration and then sticking to it.
Don't state 4 weeks and then stay 4 months.
