Paying Council Tax & Naturalisation

Post by Seashell1 » Fri Jan 20, 2017 6:59 pm

Good evening,

I am staying with my friend at his flat. It has been nearly 3-4 years since I am staying with my friend.

My question is in relation to paying/not paying Council tax bill.

My friend is the owner of the flat.

He pays the Council tax bill, but i am not paying it.

Could please someone explain if this would affect my application for Naturalisation ?

And also.. how about the electoral register ? I am an EU national. It turns out i am not on electoral roll ! I was on it in 2012 but not since then !

Will this also affect my Naturalisation application ?

Does he claim 25% single person discount? Or discount of any kind i.e. Student?

Did you give the council your new address?

Petaltop - no he has been always paying full council tax bill in fact he never knew he would be entitled for 25% if he was living on his own.

re: electoral roll - i have just registered for the electoral roll. When i was doing it online at gov website, it asked whether i have moved out to a diff address in the last 12 months to which i replied - no. I think it will be dated back 12 months.

would this affect my Naturalisation application? Council tax / electoral roll ?

It all comes down to whether you were liable to pay council tax.
You can dig into such vital questions here:

Sorry the link has too much information.

I would only like to know if I am liable to pay council tax from my described circumstances above.

And also in respect to electoral roll. Has someone been in a similar situation?

the link states in section 6.4 that non payment of council tax would not result in the refusal if the person can prove he/she has made reasonable efforts to arrange alternative ways of payment.

However I am not sure if i ever was liable to pay? It is not about the fact that I have not paid as the link reveals.

The link has no info in respect to Electora Roll at all.

If living on a "bills included" kind of basis and not directly responsible or liable for CT yourself then you should be in the clear.
