Will I get 2 year EC or 3 year EC?

One applies for a further round of FLR, to cover the time until one would be eligible for ILR.
Thus I'm assuming that you need to travel to UK as soon as your EC gets stamp.. or else you would need to apply for FLR twice.. (which can be troublesome the second time)...
Is this the only option .. or are there is something i'm missing..
