Is Naturalisation Required?

Post by Dkundnani » Mon Feb 27, 2017 10:25 pm

Hello,

I and my husband got our ILR June 2012. He then got his British passport in Sep 2014 however I didn't applied for Naturalization / British Citizenship along with him.

Do I have to now apply for Naturalization first and then British citizenship?

Or

Can I get directly apply for British Citizenship as my husband is having a British passport?

Please can you advice

Kind Regards

I am not sure what your question is.

You have to be naturalised to be a British if you currently are on ILR.

That is to say, you have to apply for British citizenship via naturalisation (not via registration nor 'by British descent' as far as I know).

Just wanted to understand what is applicable in my case

ILR -> Naturalization -> British Passport
OR
ILR -> British passport (only because my husband got his BC in 2014)

Naturalisation is ONE way of having British citizenship. and then British passport which signifies you are a British.

There is no way for you to get a British passport (in your case) if you do not become a British (which means you have to be naturalised).
