Interested in moving to London with EU spouse

Post by dangerismymiddlename » Sat Feb 16, 2008 5:47 pm

Thank you in advance for your help!

I'm so glad i found this resource!

I'm an American citizen and my wife is from Poland. I've grown tired of the US and I wish to move to London with my wife. I've never been to Europe and I don't know any of the rules with visas and such.

I don't know the process and its sort of confusing.

How can I move there with her and work?

Do I need to register in Poland first or at some embassy?

Do I have to leave the country (the UK) if she leaves as well?

Please help.

Thanks!!

You might want to check out "Europe" first. Parts of it have a very different feel from parts of the US, to put it mildly.

Anyway, if you want to move, you have to apply for an EEA Family Permit at the British consulate. Your spouse needs to be in the UK already, or moving there with you. Once you are in the UK, you would apply for a Residence Card using form EEA2. You do have the right to work, although there is some red tape to cut first.

Since you are moving from outside of the EU, the UK has some leeway in processing your application. But usually they are still pretty easy in the US. You could also move to Poland first and then to the UK, although on the whole that sounds more complicated.

Yes, but you can retain the right of residence after a few years.
