Extend visiting visa

Post by ybyuan2001 » Wed Mar 15, 2017 9:46 pm

My friend got someone from Philippine , he has got 6 months visiting visa now he said has extended his visa for another 6 months . Can you extend visiting visa for another period of time ? I am just worried my friend might not be aware of that . Thanks in advance

A visitor is not permitted to spend more time in the UK in a 12 month rolling period than they are spending in their home country.

Are you saying that this person's visitor visa has been extended from within the UK :?: Something doesn't quite add up here. :?

Yes this person is still in the UK . The current visa will be expired the end of March,he came to the UK the end of Sep 2016. From what I have gathered you can't extend standard visiting visa in the UK. Maybe I am wrong please correct me

No they met online, then this person came to London the end of Sept 2016. To be honest he was lucky to get visa to U K at first place. Now he said he extended his visa for further 6 months which I am not convinced at all.

Highly unlikely he managed to extend as it is usually only possible for compelling and compassionate reasons, as per the link vinny has provided.

Also, he doesn't seem to meet this requirement below.
6. Extend your visa
You may be able to extend your visa as long as the total time you spend in the UK is less than 6 months - eg if you apply for a 3 month visa, you can apply to extend it for 3 more months.
That aside, it costs £811 to extend by post, £1311 in person.

A person on a visitor visa is not able to switch to any other category of visa.

Also, he would not qualify for any other visa based on your friend, i.e. fiance visa, as an 'online partner' as the first requirement is that the two partners have physically met in person.

Is your friend British??

Yes my friend is British . It's a simply story-- chatted online then someone came to UK meet.I wouldn't want to put things in a horrible way but there Is a doubt about this relationship. He might not be able to extend the visiting visa but my friend said he has got extension. It looks all bizarre for me . None of my business just want to get clear idea of this.

Something clearly doesn't add up in this story and really hope it doesn't come back to bite your friend.

Has your friend physically seen this extension evidence?

He said he has seen it. All I can take is his words. Honestly think my friend will be in trouble sooner or later . One of them is lying that's for sure . My parents used to come and forth I never knew there is a way can extend visiting visa. Maybe rules changed

No, the rules haven't changed. Only in exceptionally compelling and compassionate reasons, can a visa be extended. It is not possible simply because you want to stay.

Thanks .Forgot to mention my friend has diagonised skin cancer --early stage last Thursday . Do you think that might be the reason he could get extension ?

The person arrived 30 spe 2016 . Now it's 30 mar 2017. The period is 6 months now . How come someone can still stay if holding 6 months standard visiting visa ? Any clue? Any way to find out? Thanks

If he successfully extended or if it's still under consideration, i.e. Section 3C applies, then he can.

His landlord can check.

Thanks . I do hope he has extended his visa but it is huge unlikely to extend visiting visa as far as I have gathered. If application has refused how soon he needs to leave UK?

Depends on when his overstay begins.

Thanks unfortunately his landlord is my friend . Is there any affect to my friend if his friend is overstayed ? Like someone has got criminal offence to encourage to do so?

Is he a tenant or a house guest? With the latter, the landlord is exempt from fines.
3. Which letting arrangements fall within the scheme? wrote:3.5 House guests

House guests, such as friends or family members, do not fall within the scope of the scheme provided that:

a. they are not paying rent and

b. they are not living in the accommodation as their only or main home

Found out that person's visa expired 22 Feb 2017. So he has overstayed more than a month . What consequences would be ? Sorry I long this is a long thred
