General election announced - will this affect your visa?

Post by AES90 » Tue Apr 18, 2017 12:06 pm

As you may know, Theresa May has just announced a general election for 8th June 2017. This means the official "purdah" period will be approx 6 to 4 weeks before the election.

For those unfamiliar with purdah - this is a term in UK Govt to describe the pre election period before an election. Decisions by that government department make in this period are restricted as they must not influence someone how to vote.

I'm quiet worried now as I submitted my visa application for 1st April and it's likely that the visa won't be complete until after purdah hits. Does anyone know where Visa decisions are affected by purdah?

I'm sure this will apply to several members on the board.

"Purdah" affects new policy decisions. It does not affect routine work. So your visa should be processed as normal.

The good thing is that "Purdah" means that there won't be any new Immigration Rules till June 6th.

I agree that purdah affects new policy but govt published guidance states that decisions which may be politically sensitive may also be affected. Perhaps this suggested that all "routine" cases will be ok by more complex and high profile cases may be delayed? This also suggested that those cases on hold because of the income threshold will either resume before purdah or, wait until after he election.
