Divorce granted in India valid in the UK?

Post by vapudi » Mon May 22, 2017 1:33 pm

Hi,
my ex-spouse came to UK on a dependent visa (marriage happened in India), stayed in UK for seven months, went back to India, applied for divorce there and got divorce granted by Indian court. Her visa was not renewed after its expired. I became citizen here in the UK.

I got married now and want to apply for a dependent visa for my wife. Is the Divorce given by Indian court valid to prove that my previous marriage was dissolved?

Can you please suggest. Thanks for your time.

See point 4 of following literature:

The opinion expressed as above is neither a professional advice nor contesting/competing to other member's opinion/advice.

Thanks Seagul for your reply. It was granted by Government Court in India.

Hi Seagul,
The Divorce certificate confirms that our marriage was dissolved and ex-wife has been granted Divorce. Does the Reason for Divorce - what the certificate says - matters?

Can you please leave your thoughts on this?
