Joining political party

Most of political parties offer joining for UK residents from their websites. As a Tier 2 holder I cannot vote, but it seems it's still legal to join a political party in the UK?

Also, can this affect immigration record in any way? I'm obviously talking about mainstream political parties only.

It's not prohibited. You can also vote if you are a citizen of a commonwealth country
