Im not Paying COuncil Tax.!!!!!

Post by humble1 » Sun Jan 27, 2008 8:37 pm

My wife has applied for further leave to remain, and they have called us for an interview in 2 weeks time, and they have asked us to bring along our last council tax bill. The problem is that im living with my grandfather, who gets benifit , and gets full rebate of his council tax bill. Im wondering if that will affect me in any way?

What, the facts that Grandfather is probably getting too much benefit? Has he actually told the Council Tax Benefits office that you two are living there?

I don't think him getting too much benefit will affect you, but as youb do not have a Council Tax bill, surely you just have to explain that. After all if your landlord was unrelated, I don't think you would be taking the landlord's CT bill would you.

You have not got a CT bill! If you did have one, then you would obviously bring it, wouldn't you.

The grandfather, as the resident owner occupier, is the person who's liable to pay the council tax. Either as a tenant or a licensee (not paying rent), you won't have your name on the bill.

Well it is advisable that the Council are told, but not by you. The person to tell the Council is the payer of the bill, your Grandfather. And it is essential that he does that as soon as possible, given that he is most likely being paid too much Council Tax Benefit at the moment.

ILR - interview

Post by marusya » Sun Feb 03, 2008 10:31 pm

Hello, i have the same problem, I recieved a letter asking to come for the interview on 20 February in order to proceed with my application further, the letter doesn't say what this interview is about. and at the bottom of the letter it asks to bring a copy of our latest council tax bill.

When is your interview?

Our interview is in Sheffield as well, 4 hours drive from where we are!

I am concerned about it. Has anyone expereinced the same interview?
