Yes, called this number 0300 123 2253. First she asked me the same question - do you have any proof that you were allowed to work ? I said - my visa was the proof as every student visa holders were allowed to work provided that they apply for NI. She said, write a cover letter explaining that, send your NI with the letter, Case worker will write you back if he/she needs more information. Clearly those who answer the call doesn't have any idea either...sameer0778866 wrote:Did you ring them up ?
On the form you have to mention last 10 years work history, I started working from 2007, which I mentioned.nwo wrote:Uk007
Did you mention in your work history that you have been working in 2005 and 2006

Did you manage to sort this out? Any updates ?
Nope, I only have mark sheets from the college. After speaking with HO on phone, posted a cover letter, will update you guys once I get any response.aravindb4u wrote:Did your university provide any letter when you first applied for NI. If you still (!) have that letter, that might help proving that you are authorised by the university to work and apply for NI
Wish you all the best UK007 and hopefully your application will be smooth sailingUK007 wrote:aravindb4u wrote:Hi uk007.

Any update from HO.
This may be a case of incomplete training of the caseworker, who are confused by the (admittedly often confusing) paperwork issued by the home office. That is not unusual, sometimes you have to explain to them how to do their job.UK007 wrote:On 2005, all students were allowed to work 20 hours during term time, which I did. I renewed my visa 4 times and received my ILR too, never any issues. Not sure why Now HO wants to see a evidence of receiving authorisation.
Anyone faced this kind of problem ? Not sure what to reply back to HO.

Thank you all. I told them o covering letter - "During 2005 students were allowed to work as long as they apply for NI" and attached my NI with the cover letter.thsths wrote:This may be a case of incomplete training of the caseworker, who are confused by the (admittedly often confusing) paperwork issued by the home office. Assuming you are correct (2005 is a long time ago, and the law changed several times), you need to find the piece of legislation (probably secondary legislation) that states your right to work, and send them a copy. I doubt the caseworker will accept this, but with a bit of luck it will go to a senior caseworker who understands the situation.
