Immigration Health Surcharge - Exempt for child under 18?

Post by mkraja » Fri Jun 23, 2017 11:42 pm

Hi all

I have completed online spouse visa applications for my wife and daughter. Categories selected for wife was Settlement>>>>>settlement>>>>wife and for my daughter it was Settlement>>>>>child or other dependent of a settled person. Two seperate applications needed to be completed using Visa4UK website.

Now after completing applications it asked to choose appointment location etc, and then it asked to pay for Immigration Health Surcharge, for my wife it asked the amount equivalent to £600 but when I did the same process for my daughters application, it said:

" Exempt based on lead applicant being 18 or under and applying under visa Route: Settlement - Child or dependant of settled"

Is this correct?. Is my daughter expemt to pay IHS? Or I have done some mistake here. She is 6 years old and both her and her mother's applications are being completed and submitted together.

plz advise

Not exempt.

HO/UKVI will likely write/email you to make the payment.

By the way CR001 after how long UKVI send email to pay IHS for child?
As I applied in end of April and it's been two months but no email for my daughter(8 years old)
I have received my original documents back though from Shefield.
NB it's non priority application for wife and daughter

Hi Londonguy

for non-priority it looks like they are taking a minimum of 3 months to get back (from date of biometrics)

Re IHS for kids - I have seen some cases where after 3 months a 'not straightforward' email is sent and then within a week or so request for IHS for kids is made by UKVI...

But i guess it is also possible to not get the 'not straightforward' email and then get IHS request for kids (but mostly this will be after 3 months from your bio-metrics)

HTH

It sounds they will ask after making decision.
So if they decide to refuse the visa then they won't ask for child IHS as it needs to be refunded in that case.
Or do they ask anyway?

Yes as far as I can think if they ask for IHS for kids then it seems like a positive move.
Interestingly one user got request for IHS for one of his kids and not the other!
So sometimes it is very difficult to predict how things turn as each case seems so unique.. at the best we can gauge some rough idea of how things operate..

Patience is key i think..

I will keep posted on how things progress at my end..

We submitted our applications last Wed 12 July in Dar Es Salaam. Just had an email from Pretoria asking to pay the surcharge for our daughter. We applied priority. At least they are looking at it.......
