SEGS to Workpermit ?

I am presently on the SEGS Visa (Science Engineering and Graduate Scheme) which is valid only for 1 year. [During this period, I am eligible to work for any employer in the UK without any restrictions]

1. Suppose, I am employed by a company now and work till the end of the expiry of my SEGS Visa - will my employer be eligible to apply for a work permit for me then so that I continue to work for them?

2. If it is possible - what are the criterions to apply for a work permit?

PS: I am not eligible to apply for a HSMP Visa.

Yes - but employer and job spec must meet the WP requirements..
