I don't know where they got this data - perhaps some sort of annual report?

It seems like since they decrease the points required, the 'pass' rate also decreased :?

thats a good point chess. the other thing i noted is that the stats fo up to 30th of June while they know how many applications they have received up to then, how can they tell how many they have approved since they are stuck on June 7

A member of their forum posted it from the Parliament website:

http://www.publications.parliament.uk/p ... 116w62.htm

It can be found in the third section down, under "Work Permits".

It brings up lots of questions and issues---

What do you all think???

:? What is really ironic is when you look at the sentence

Data on applications approved for the period November 2003—June 2004 is incomplete as a number of these applications have not yet been decided.

How can Home Office include it then in their figures?

This is from Nov 2004 when they were still processing May 2004 applications.

Who knows what to believe anymore? :(

Funny there seems to be no apparent order in which they are ranked. also take for instance. the one thing that has caught my mind is the massive drop in success rate

Another strage thing is that the list is meant to provide apoplication iformation from the 'Top 10' countries:

Howver, China is listed with 2 applications

May be the English speaking abilities is also an important factor along with other possible reasons. In countries like India, Pakistan and some others the official language is English as well as the medium of higher education is normally english. That may not be the case in China and it has fewer number of applicants inspite of its huge population

Very interesting post. Looks like people from all countries were being refused in high numbers last year.

Could be a response to the change in volume of applications. I suppose this might be a way to control HSMP emmigration numbers without using quotas.

Keep in mind that they also lowered the points around that time, resulting in higher numbers of applications. It's my guess that a lot of people applied who weren't really qualified after the points got lowered, increasing the rejection rate.

Lynn - look at the numbers for US applicants. There wasn't a huge increase in the second period over the first. Yet, we went from mostly accepted to 7 of 10 rejected.

True. The are two things though, first that this data is for first applications, and many people seem to get approved upon review or a second application (from all countries) and the US has the highest approval rate for both periods.
