spouse visa please help

hi i got married in india in dec 07 my wife applied for a spouse visa in jan 08 unfortunately she was refused on the grounds that we had performed a islamic marriage which are not recognised in india. we then performed a civil marriage in courts and sent the civil marriage documents with the appeal i was wondering how long it would take if they decide to overturn the refusal as it has been 4 weeks since we sent the appeal we were told the entry clearance officer would let us know their decision to overturn refusal or not
could someone advise on what i should do please thanks

I would have thought u'd need to reapply rathert than appeal since the refusal was valid at the time.
