HO letter urging to send back RC due to printing error

Post by KarmaPolice » Thu Jul 20, 2017 11:05 pm

Hi all,

today, just about two weeks after receiving her residence card, my spouse received another letter from Home Office. It says the card should be cut and sent back within 5 working days because of an error during printing. It claims the header incorrectly says "Residence Permit" (which it does) when it should be saying "Residence card", and the footer "Residence card of a family member of a union citizen" is missing (also correct)

We will cut it and post it to the provided return address asap, hoping to get a replacement soon.

Personally, I'm astonished by such levels of incompetence. How is this possible?!

Has anyone experienced something similar?

Overwork, inadequate computerisation, and quite possibly simple finger trouble are all reasonable possibilities.

What's more interesting is that the error was subsequently detected by the Home Office.

True, and that's very fortunate. Would have been awkward if we had gone to travel with it.

Probably someone who received a card with the same error has pointed it out to them, and they recalled the whole batch?

Hi KarmaPolice,

I am in the same situation as you.
What is the address you were asked to send the card?

Regards,

I received the same letter for 3 people. The Irony was, i had already sent it back to the Home Office, when i saw it said Residence Permit as opposed to Residence Card, which is what is should be.

the address we were asked to send it to is:

Freepost XXXX-XXXX-XXXX
Returns Unit (BRC Correction)
P.O. Box 163
Bristol
BS20 1AB

It's now been 10 working days since they have received it, and no response. Starting to get worried now as we have booked a trip in two weeks.

I called the hotline and they said I have to write a letter. Forgot to ask which address. The above?

Has anyone else received their corrected card yet?

I have the same situation> received the letter on 20 jun then I phoned them up and told them that i have holiday booked and they said its fine to travel with the letter, I went away for 6 weeks then when i came back The immigration officer stopped me at the airport ten i showd him the letter and he made a phone call to the home office and they told him to take away my card and send it to them which he did and he told me they going to send me a new card. I asked him about the status and he said nothing to worry about its just the header and footer is wrong.

Its been one week already and i still haven't recived my new PR card yet

You need to email them on BRCDelivery@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk. Expalin & complain them everything about long wait & you need you RC urgently. You would get reply most probably next working day or after one working day.

Try to email them few times as it would surely help because I did same & every time I got different reply until I got reply with all detail & explanation on Friday with reference number from DX to rearrange my delivery. I booked already & I would receive my RC this coming week.

I sent my RC to replace on 21st of August because I was travelling so travelled with incorrect RC but on my return to UK, I gave them to replace. I not only sent them letter twice on their given postal address but emailed them few times.

I am not surprised by the level of incompetence displayed here - that is pretty much to be assumed for the Home Office.

But I am a bit surprised that they ask for the card to be sent back first. They have a legal duty to send out the correct card, why are they not getting on with doing that? Why do they ask us to send back the wrong card first? Logically there is no reason do that, and legally there is no requirement.

I got mine after about a month and that was because I kept sending them email and reporting via their website. I specifically said I needed it for work travel reasons and I got an email later to say it was on the way back to me.

Wondering whether anyone has written to BRCDelivery@homeoffice.gsi.gov.uk lately; it looks like all the gov emails are refusing to respond to any enquiries - 'If you are not responding to an e-mail we sent to you we will delete your message without reading it.' This makes me furious.

It's been more than 1 week that I'm waiting, and I have no way to chase?

The way that I was told my BRP has an error was not through a HO letter but at Heathrow border. It felt very weird, and I had no choice at that time since the border officer already took away my original BRP. Did anyone experience this at all?
