Travel Schengen area with EEA FP

Post by FaNtKa » Tue Sep 26, 2017 1:29 pm

I'm an Italian citizen and I'm living in London with my non-EU unmarried partner.
She has an EEA Family Permit visa valid for 6 months (expiry date March 2018) and we would like to visit Spain in December for 1 week.

Do we need a Schengen visa to fly to Spain as tourists for 1 week?
Is it the same to visit others Schengen countries or my home country (Italy)?

Thanks.

You don't mention his nationality, if he requires a Schengen visa, he will have to apply for one, the family permit will help to get the Schengen visa quickly.

Thanks wegiwegi,
my unmarried partner is Russian and she normally needs a Schengen visa, but she already has an EEA Family Permit visa for 6 months and I would like to know if it is possible to use this visa to visit Spain.
Obviously we'll travel together.

Family permit as far as I know, is a British thing, so he will need to get a Schengen visa to get to Spain, so start the process , and you should get it quick enough for your trip this Xmas.

I have seen some threads on this forum about people travelling to Schengen countries with an EEA Family Permit visas. we have the same visa, the only difference is that we aren't married.

You might have read topics where they refer to holding a Residence Card (which is valid for 5 years) are the partners are likely married, which means the non-EU spouse has automatic rights. The same does not apply to unmarried partners.
