Checking students' passport for eligibility to work in UK

Post by munhumutapa » Tue Mar 18, 2008 1:47 pm

Can anyone advise me how to check if one is a student by looking at their passport? The new visas in the passports are quite similar to other visas such as dependents or work permits as it just says 'Residence Permit' and the letters don't say much except for work permit holders?

The wording under remarks should read:
Limited Leave to Remain.
No Recourse to public funds.
Able to work as authorised by the Secretary of State.

It is identical to a work permit visa, so you may want some proof the holder actually is a student.
