Preserving entitlement to register/naturalise

Post by penanglad » Thu Mar 20, 2008 6:17 pm

I was wondering if there was any way to preserve a residence-based entitlement to register or naturalise as a British citizen, or to make the application and freeze it. E.g. a Malaysian citizen who had lived in the UK a long time, was returning to Malaysia but wanted to keep open the option of returning and naturalising in the UK. With citizenship ceremonies it appears that there is a time limit within which this must be completed before the application for registration/naturalisation is void, but I wondered if anyone could think of some other way.

Not really. Also bear in mind that naturalisation applicants not married to a British citizen must normally intend to continue living in the U.K.
