urgent Renewal/reissue of child's Indian pasport

Hi,
We are currently in the UK and have to urgently travel to the US and need to apply for our visas. However my son who is 4 years old is due to renew his passport in April 2018 when he turns 5. To get our visas his passport should be valid for atleast 6 months after our travel dates. Can somebody tell me if i can apply under the same day service/tatkal scheme to get his passport on the same day of application at the CGI? Or do i have to apply through VFS and wait for 8-10 working days. I have tried to read up as much as i could online, but if anybody could help with some information, i would be very grateful.
