The House of Lords have released their report on the economic impact of immigration on the UK today. They have concluded that there is little or infact a slightly negative impact from immigration on the UK economy and have suggested an annual cap on non EU immigration.More significantly, the cross party panel virtually accuses the govt of 'misleading' the public about the benefits of immigration and have dismissed the figures published in 2007 by the HO..
Liam Bryne 'welcomed' the findings before blathering on about his 'points based' system..I wonder if this report would increase calls for qoutas on numbers? There is a strong possibility that the findings would inform some of the changes being proposed under the Green paper due to be presented in parliament later this year..
