Senior Level/Specialist Work Experience - Documentation Help

Post by Ali_UK » Tue Feb 22, 2005 5:34 pm

Dear Experts,

I am thinking of applying for HSMP(Over 28) in near future but i am not sure that whether i will qualify for Senior Level work experience. Here is my calculation

Masters degree from U of T, Canada = 25 points
5 years work expericne with two years at senior level = 35
Spouse Education = 10

As u can see, if i dont get senior level experience points , i will not meet the criteria. I am IT professional currently working for NHS in London as Information Manager

1)Jan 1999 - August 2001 = Database Developer/Architect, Pakistan
2)Jan2002 - Dec 2002 = Teaching Assistant in U of T, Canada
3)Jan 2003 - Dec 2003 = IT Project Manager, Canada
4)Jan 2004 - Oct 2004 = Senior Information Analyst, UK
5) Nov 2004 - To date = Information Manager, UK

I am not sure based on the above titles i qualify to claim for Senior Level experience. I am thinking of applying in 4 - 5 months. Could someone please help me in documentations to claim for senior level experience.

Many thanks

Regards

Ali

Ali - I sent in a letter with my experience on the Board of Directors for a local legal aid org. I would try having your employer document your input into the management of the company, i.e., how many people you supervise, your voice/vote on the decisions/directions of the company, your overall job duties, etc. Anything you can show to be considered a "senior" employee, the better.

deborahCO,

Many thanks. I am going to put myself in their shoes and will try to come up with something. It is really hard to document something which could either way.

Ali_UK,

I agree with deborahCO.

Ali_UK, why could it be "either way" for you when considering whether you are qualified to claim that you have "senior level" experience?

It should be pretty clear whether or not you had supervisorial control/responsiblity over others, and/or if you made decisions which impacted the way that the organization operated...make sure you explain these things carefully and in detail in your application.

I have been hearing a lot on these boards that, for claims of senior level experience, Home Office wants to see organizational diagrams ("organograms") showing where the HSMP applicant is in the structure, how many people are being supervised by the applicant, and how far "up" the chain of command is the applicant.

Keep us posted on your progress.
Be Well!
