Does everyone receive a BPR?

Post by ubamor01 » Thu Jan 11, 2018 2:13 pm

Hi.

Forgive me if this is a silly question.

I've just had my ceremony and we were all reminded that we need to return the BPR within 5 working days or we'd be fined £1000.
Now, I've come across this statement several times during my application, but never really understood the process or what it means. I registered my fingerprints immediately after submitting my naturalisation application, when I got the letter inviting me to go to the Post Office and get them done. But that was it.
I never received a BPR in the post and I'm now unsure, maybe I should have?
I have no permit to return within 5 days.

Does everyone receive one? Or is it to do with being EU/non-EU citizens at the time of applying?

Can anyone advise, please?

Many thanks.

BRP = Biometric Residence Permit (a card similar to a drivers licence but a visa or indefinite leave to remain).

Presumably you have a document certifying PR, either in a card format or paper format. You don't have to send anything back though.

Yes, BRP sorry, that's the one.

I do have a PR document in paper form.

So the requirement of sending back a BRP simply does not apply/is not relevant to every applicant, is that correct?

Thanks again and all the best.

It is mainly for applicants who got ILR (PR under the UK immigration rules) and who have a BRP which becomes invalid once citizenship is granted.

PR for EU nationals does not as the status is automatically attained. No need for you to send anything back to HO.

Really appreciate the clarification; panic over.

Thank you!
