Wife's schegen visa application time has been extended

Post by rainish » Tue Jan 23, 2018 8:02 pm

Hi I'm british national living in Netherlands for last few months. I applied my wife's schengen visa for netherlands and a couple of days ago I received email from asia consular saying the time of schengen visa has been extended to 45 days instead of 15 days as soon as a decision is taken you will be informed.

Do anyone know what's the mean and what they're trying to do with the application decision? Thanks

It looks like they need longer for a decision for whatever reason.

Did you apply under the directive? It is against the EU directive to take more than 2 weeks for a family member.

This is not acceptable for a family member.

Sure it is.
Visa handbook C(2010) 1620 final part III

3.4 Processing time
.
.
Processing times for a visa application lodged by a third-country national who is a family member of an EU citizen covered by the Directive going beyond 15 days should be exceptional and duly justified.

Exceptional and duly justified, while apparently they just told him “wait 45 days, bye”.

Yea I applied under the directive. But why they need that long time to make decision. It is pretty straight forward application. Even I'm working here and fully settled here.

If you didn't get a reason ask the embassy.
Due to the visa handbook they have to give you a reason.
