Tier 2 General Early Extension

Hi, 1st post on here so any help greatly appreciated. Our Visas expire on the 5/5/2018 and we want to apply for the extension mid March, i am with the same company and in the same job, have already done 1 extension successfully in 2015 so no issues there. I cant seem to find any definite confirmation that we can apply upto 3 months in advance, i called the helpline and they just give the standard answer of 28 days before expiry, ive seen this is actually for ILR. Can someone on here please confirm for me, we are looking to do our application in 4-5 weeks time if ok to do so more than 28 days prior to expiration.

You can apply whenever before the expiry of current leave, doesn't matter how early(you have 4 months left anyway), the start date on COS should not be more than 3 months in future.
