When you get your new passport, you must sign it with a black ballpoint pen

Post by mmali » Tue May 15, 2018 6:32 pm

Hi Everyone,
I checked the copy of my Passport application and found that I have clearly signed my application in section (9) and it is clearly visible inside the box, and I used check and send post office service. But today I just received a Text from HMPO as follow.
‘’ When you get your new passport, you must sign it with a black ballpoint pen. Go to https://www.passport.service.gov.uk/help/sign to check where you need to sign. If you've told us you're unable to sign your passport, you don't need to.’’
You don't generally sign a passport, you sign the passport application then the signature is transferred onto the passport.
Has anyone experienced this please?
Thanks

You sign on the page next to photo page on adult British passports. Signatures are not transferred.

You may google, first image shows it clearly and also explains it.
Don't misconstrue my views for professional immigration advice, just trying to give back to a community that helped me through my journey.

Passport mentions it some people sign some don't, it's up to the immigration/passport controls to check enforce ... Lot of times no one is bothered however you can be asked to sign.

BTW do you mean none of your family members passports has a mention to sign or their passports came with their signatures printed.

In my family they do not remember it and said it should come with signature .
I think as far as the HMPO asks to sign it , that will be ok with me and will sign it in designated area.

As far as I'm aware general adult passports always require signature. Minors don't.

I think there seem to be many versions to this ... mine has the signature from the application sealed in on the photo page.
This is just my opinion as a member of this forum and does not constitute immigration advice.

It is the new passports issued from this year that require the signature in black pen.
