Customs and immigration at London vs. Glasgow

Post by cdraina » Mon Apr 28, 2008 5:05 pm

Hi,

I plan to move to the Glasgow(Scotland) in May. I have the following flight options by British Airways:

Option I: India to London(Heathrow) + London (Gatwick) to Glasgow

Option II: India to London(Heathrow) + London (Heathrow) to Glasgow

In the above two cases which will be my point of entry from the customs and immigration perspective?

Best regards,
CD

London Heathrow in both cases. I hope you are aware that London Gatwick is about 45 miles from London Heathrow.

I have another option:

Delhi to Dubai + Dubai to Glasgow

Is customs/immigration relatively quicker/easier at Glasgow when compared to London?

easier ?? - the immigration and custom laws are same for entire UK !
quicker - maybe! since Glasgow handles much less number of flights.

But don't worry .. be it heathrow or Glasgow, it will not be as bad as Delhi or Mumbai :D

You will find that a much better travelling experience! Certainly this should be your first choice ..... avoid Heathrow if you can ... and you can!

Agree with this wholeheartedly. Just the sheer difference in size will make Glasgow a more pleasant starting point. The immigration rules will be the same, of course, but queues and times and crowds are likely to be less. Plus it's always better to arrive at your final point rather than have to change planes and continue your journey on a connecting flight, no matter how short that connecting flight might be. Heathrow really isn't a fun place...

Worst Airport ever

Post by AlexD » Tue Apr 29, 2008 1:21 pm

I have been travelling to and from Heathrow since 1985 and there are very few airports in the WORLD that are as badly organised. It takes ages to go through immigration, the luggage Trolleys haven't been upgraded since the last coronation, and to go through security is an ordeal.

See this link:

I haven't visited Delhi but Bombay has improved by leaps and bounds over the last 2-3 years. Infact, during my visit last month the immigration officer even smiled at me.

hsmpinuk has obviously not been to Bombay in the last couple of years.
