Prof. Referee Question: Reserve Member of HM Armed forces or Chief Control officer?

Post by Fedus » Sat Sep 08, 2018 6:03 pm

Hi all,

A question about professional referee for citizenship application. I tried browsing/searching to get an answer for the below but couldn't find much:

For my application I have 2 referees, which one do you think is more suitable for the professional referee?
1. British citizen, project manager, reserve member of HM armed forces.
2. British citizen, Chief Control Officer at a large VAT-paying company.

Going on technicalities I think either could be a referee but was wondering which one is more suitable?

For 1) the guidance doesn't state whether or not one should be a full time member of the army or a reserve - it just says member of the HM Armed Forces which he is (he spends x number of days every year in service/training).

For 2) I believe he would fall under "director, manager or personnel officer of a VAT registered company" as CCO is a senior managerial position, my only concern is that the title doesn't state "manager".

If you think neither is suitable, I could ask a referee with "Manager" in their title or from another background but not sure if necessary as I have the 2 above.

Many thanks,

Fedus

Number 2 should be no issue at all - there are many different terms for "manager" being used these days.
Number 1 could be ok if person has a professional qualification (for example member of a professional institution, like Architect, Accountants, etc). HM Forces member I guess refer to full time members, rather than reserves.

Hi Alterhase58,

Many thanks for a quick reply. I'll go with #2 then

One question related to the above - is it worth me including a quick note in my supporting documentation clarifying that CCO is a manager at a VAT paying company?

Thanks and regards,

Fedus

Not necessary - if there is any question mark about the referee (which I doubt) they may ask for another referee. Postings about rejected referees are very rare - haven't seen one myself.
