Long Term Residency - what are the facts?

Post by Kay » Mon May 19, 2008 11:42 am

Hi there

I have lived in Ireland long enough to qualify for LTR. I am really unsure as to what details I have to provide. I called up the Dept of Immigration and the guy was quite blase saying I just needed to write a letter detailing my name, address, phone number and also supply photocopies of all my passport stamps as well as a photocopy of my GNIB card.

Surely there is more to it than that - unless they have relaxed the rules?

I dont want to send in an application and have it sent back to me.

I understand there is also a really long wait - nearly 3 years?

I will be here 8 years before I will get my LTR in that case and could apply for the 8-year one at the gardai. I just dont want to take any chances.

Thanks everyone in advance

No that's it, the guy was right, make sure you have 1825 days covered by stamps and work permits/working visa.

It will get to a point that they will process the naturalization applications quicker than the LTR applications.

I think this is the whole point, to discourage people to settle in Ireland.
Ireland doesn't need you after few years, you've paid your taxes now f**ck off.
They need new people to pay taxes and benefit as little as possible from these taxes.

Thanks for that. Have just started sorting my permits and photocopying everything so I will send it off tomorrow.

Do you know who i send it to? I suppose I can do a google search.

Many thanks for your reply :)
