General Discussion During Naturalisation Application Process

Hi there,
Firstly, I want to congratulate to the organizers of the website/foro, because is a good help to all the people involved with Visa applications.
Secondly, let me introduce myself; I came to uk (Scotland) in 2012 with my family and we believe is time to apply for citizenship by naturalisation. Apologize if this has been alreafy clarify, but I didnt found a clear answer.
Can we apply the whole family at same time? I mean, is a family application in some where? If is yes, is better all toguether? Is a family fee?
Or I have to apply one by one. Adults first and later on the kids?
As we are 6 years in Uk, we will need the ILR?
I've been told that the NCS wont give any kind of advise.

There is no discount for a family applying together. Each applicant must pay the stipulated fee.

It depends on the date that HO deemed you all to have attained PR automatically. The letter you get will state what that date is. All of you can apply together if you all attained PR at the same time.

Mate same here, I applied 20th July and on September 22nd I got a letter asking for further proof of residence. Ever since its quite again. I am not sure whats the hold up with my application but certainly July applications are extremely slow. I wish there was some online tracking or enhanced communication channel between the caseworker and the applicant. After all it costed £1330 to make an application.

I have a relatively straightforward application, been in the country since 2006, had a Tier 2 since 2012, moved jobs once, never overstayed, no criminal history. Got my ILR using the premium service last year in October, since then I have got married and elected to apply early for my Citizenship based on being married to a british citizen and holding ILR.

I elected early as I had multiple meetings coming up where I would have to travel to Europe to discuss Post Brexit arrangements with customers.

Extremely frustrated with the Home Office, i applied in mid May, so that is is about 5 months now and no word from the home office. Their telephone service is extrmely poor.

After a query, they returned my passport and BRP, but still hold my wife's passport and all our other documents.I have asked for the rest of the documents back multiple times now, but to no avail. they will not even reply to emails.

Poor service, specially when considering the cost.

For the governtment to view applicants as Customers, is disconcerting.... Not happy at all partially thinking of withdrawing my application and remaining an Indian Citizen with ILR. Atleast my children will then have the right to Indian, Irish and UK citizenship if Brexit goes down badly!

Hi, I am currently filling out my online application for BC. I originally came to the U.K in 1997 on a working holidaymaker visa, during which time I met my future husband. I returned to my home country at the end of my visa, then re-entered the U.K 5 months later on a tourist visa and married. I was granted ILR in 2001 and was a stay at home mum to our 3 children for many years, supported by my husband, whom is a BC. I have been working for over 8 years now, and unfortunately have now divorced this year. My questions are- will my application be ok even though I am now divorced and how do i prove I was supported by him during the years of child rearing, or in fact , do I need to provide evidence of this? Would be most grateful for your help. Thank you.

Your divorce is irrelevant.

There is no requirement to prove you were 'supported'.

It is relevant to EU citizens (non British) and their family.

There is no requirement for employment etc for citizenship.

Thank you for your reply. Well, I wonder that myself... I suppose I did not expect to have an opportunity to be traveling so early on in the year and didn't think it would have been an issue. Looking back it would have made more sense but now it's obviously too late.

I have lived in the UK for over 10 years now and had my PR approved last November. However I obtained permanent residency on the 1st September 2014. I submitted the application on the 2nd October and hoping to get it approved by mid December. I understand it's difficult to predict anything but do you reckon I should get it in time?

There are no 28 days rule in applying BC. You need to complete at least 12 months.

I a in the process of completing an online AN application. I have some questions regarding the Nationality Checking Service (NCS) and the Nationality Document Return Service (NDRS):

1. As part of the NDRS, do they verify if the forms have been completed correctly and all required forms have been included?

2. If not, is it possible to both the NCS (to verify that the form has been completed correctly) and the NDRS (to get my passport and BRP back on the same day)?

3. If this is not possible, is it worth paying an immigration lawyer to review my application and ensure it is filled in correctly, prior to completing the application?

A couple of general questions as well:

In section 6 of the AN Guide titled Biometric Enrolment, it states the following: As part of your application, you are required to enrol your biometric details for the purpose of identity verification. You must complete the biometric enrolment section of the application form. You will then be issued with an enrolment letter, instructing you to make an appointment at a designated Post Office to have your biometric details recorded.

I have not seen any reference to this in the application form at all and I'm right at the end (payment section). How do I go about completing my Biometric Enrolment?

5. I have lost my Life in the UK pass certificate but have a photo of it. Is it worth printing out the photo as part of the cover letter?

3. If this is not possible, is it worth paying an immigration lawyer to review my application and ensure it is filled in correctly, prior to completing the application? If you have followed the guidance notes and booklet for form AN, then there should be no need. A solicitor is not required unless you have a very complex case and even then, has no bearing or influence on your application and they often get even the most basic applications horribly wrong.

Sorry, have another question. I have booked in my NDRS for 2nd November and in the confirmation email there is a statement about not travelling for 2 months from the time I make the application. I already have flights booked from mid-December to early Jan (away for a total of 3 weeks).

Given that there is a maximum of 15 days to enrol biometrics from the time the request is made, should I reschedule the NDRS session to the new year (in case I'm still overseas at the time)?

What's the typical time between the application being made and the enrolment request coming through?

Is it possible to complete biometric enrolment in Australia?
