Online Application - Being Physically Present in the UK 5 Years Beforehand

What is the actual date an applicant needs to be in the UK 5 years prior to the application being made for an online application? Is it:

1. 5 years from the day the online form was submitted and payment made

2. 5 years from the day of the NDRS appointment

3. 5 years from the day the HO receive the paperwork
