Good morning,
I need an urgent advice please. So on the 2nd of November this year made it 10 years since I've been living in the UK but July 2011 I decided to return to Nigeria to renew my expired passport as I was unaware that it could be done in the UK.
On arriving at Heathrow airport I was told that I couldn't travel with an expired passport and that I would need a permission from the Nigerian Immigration service to embark on the journey. I made some phone calls and British airways were emailed a permission by the Nigerian Immigration and I was allowed to fly.
On arriving at Lagos, Nigeria I wasn't aware that my passport wasn't stamped by the IO upon entry. I spent 10 days in the country and returned to the UK after my passport was renewed. The renewed passport was stamped upon my return to the UK at Heathrow.
While I was filling the ILR application form I then realised that the stamp was missing and contacted British airways for a confirmation of that journey as a proof to back up my application but they said they were unable to confirm trips that were made over a year ago. I then contacted the Nigerian Immigration for the permission that was sent to BA but they said that they haven't got it archived and that the reason my passport wasn't stamped was because it was expired.
Basically I've got 2 questions please, the first is seeing I was allowed to travel with an expired passport and haven't got any proof of the permission that was granted would it be an issue? Secondly, since my passport wasn't duely stamped upon entering Nigeria would the flight ticket be a sufficient proof of the trip?
