PR & sponsoring spouse

Post by AlfaBeta123 » Sat Feb 02, 2019 12:01 pm

Hi all,

I wasn't able to see if there was already a subject such as the below.

My sister in law (non eu extended family member) received her PR last week!!

Now she has decided to get married in her sri lanka (in April 2019). I wondered what the best options is to sponsor her husband once married? Can she sponser him with her PR (would it be easy)? Or is it better for her to obtain BC?

I look forward to hearing from you!

As she holds PR, she can only sponsor him under the UK immigration rules as she is not an EU citizen to use the EU route. Whether she applies while holding PR or British citizenship makes no difference, it is the same visa.

She needs to meet the minimum £18,600pa financial requirement and he would need to meet the English requirement. She would also have to provide evidence of adequate accommodation and subsisting relationship.

Visa fee is currently £1523 plus the Immigration Health Surcharge of £1200.

Application could take a couple of months, and sometimes up to or more than 6 months.
