Naturalisation after 1 year ILR

Post by jbinuk » Tue Jun 10, 2008 5:25 pm

Hi,

I just need some help on information on my eligibility to apply Citizenship.

My wife arrived here 6 years (2002) ago on a work permit, then I also moved a year after (2003). We were granted ILR 2007.

My question is can I apply for Citizenship without my wife because my wife has moved to the US permanently. I read somewhere that if you are not married to a British Citizen then you need 2 years after getting an ILR to be able to apply for citizenship.

I am not sure if this is true.

Any help will be much appreciated.

I currently going through naturalization requirements...I didn't see anywhere 2 year rule after ILR the one you mentioned in your earlier post. You have to be free from immigration for 1 year before apply for naturalization.

You need to have had ILR for at least one year, and ... separate rule ... you must have been phyisically in the UK exactly 5 years before UKBA will receive the Naturalisation application.

So you arrived in 2003 .... when in 2003? And having arrived, did you leave the UK for any reason during the rest of 2003? If so, what dates of absence?

Thanks for all your responses.

I arrived May'03, granted ILR May'07 and have lived in UK since I arrived. From what you guys are saying, it means I am now eligible to apply. Is that correct?
