Spouse visa from outside UK

I have read different comments on this forum regarding spouse visa and I got confused. Kindly let me know the current rules as I couldn't find it on Gov. Uk.

If my non EU spouse apply visa from outside UK, will he get 30 days vignette sticker on passport to travel to UK initially OR direct 33 months visa?

30 days of entry clearance on passport whereas remaining visa on BRP card which applicant collects from local post office on arriving.
