Surname change on BRP after Divorce

Post by Jann » Wed Feb 20, 2019 5:06 pm

Hi,

Currently I am on employee sponsored Tier 2 General Visa.
I would like to change my last name after divorce, so going back to my maiden surname.
I have original divorce decree from Indian Court.

This looks like a straight forward process of first changing my last name on Indian passport and then applying online for name change on BRP. I have decided to do both the changes using priority channel because right now I am in a situation where I would like to get this done asap.

My questions are:
1. Do I still need deed poll certificate? If yes what is the process for it and how much would it cost?
2. It looks a pretty straightforward process but just want to make sure that I don't need any immigration lawyer here
3. Do I have to update my Schengen Business Visa? I currently have it for 3 years.

Any pointers would be of great help.

Many thanks,
Jann

It is a straightforward process. The deel poll and lawyers are not necessary. Simply apply for a BRP replacement however this may take 6 months. For your Schengen visa, consult the authority that issued your visa. Generally you'll get a new visa in your new passport.

Hi Zimba,

Thanks so much for getting back, I will be applying BRP through priority channel. On the website it says 3-5 working days. Will it still take 6 months?

Many thanks,
Tanvi

Kindly refrain from digging up topics from 2017. The services available and processes have changed since then.

You are likely looking at at least 8 weeks and up to 6 months for a BRP card.

I understand the processes must have changed.

My question is if I apply through premium service will it still take 8 weeks to 6 months?

There is no guarantee that using the priority or super priority service will get a quicker decision or BRP card.
