Change from unmarried partner to single

Post by mi_kon » Thu Feb 28, 2019 12:00 pm

Long story short, when I applied for tier 2 visa 3 years ago, I was in a relationship with someone and (I think) I stated i had an 'unmarried partner' on my visa application (I cannot find a way to dig up my old application to verify).

When I registered with the police upon arrival, the lady there explained that I can only state myself in an unmarried partnership if i'm with someone of the same gender, it was not the case, so she registered me as Single on the registration certificate. My ex-partner never even applied for uk visa, as we separated shortly after that. Again, we were never married legally.

Now I need to renew my visa and I just select marital status as Single in the new application. But I start panicking if I should've notified HO about change in marital status. I'm not even sure if this qualifies as such? As I was never married. And if registration with the police is enough? Should I worry about anything?

If you were not married then what 'marital status' do you believe needs changing???

You are overthinking.
