UC is a joint benefits claim because your wife's wages are used to in the benefit calculation and work requirments. We don't know how this will affect her visa.legalkhan wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2019 12:51 pmDear Forum members and Moderators,
I have been jobless for the last 2 months, been looking for one. My question is if I being a british citizen apply for Universal credit until I get a job, will this claim gonna effect my wife future extension?? I don't want to claim her element of the Universal credit but still I have to provide all her information in the application. How to make sure, this claim doesn't effect my wife's visa. I will be really thankful if some one respond to my query.
I should add that if you left your job, or did something to lose your job, there will likely be a Sanction of 3 months before you can claim jobseekers.
Thanks for such a valuable information.JB007 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2019 4:03 pmI should add that if you left your job, or did something to lose your job, there will likely be a Sanction of 3 months before you can claim jobseekers.
Be aware that you will be required to prove that you are looking for work for at least 35 hours a week, one of the things required to avoid another Sanction, which can then be for up to 3 years.
When you go on the link above, it gives this-JB007 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2019 1:09 pm
"If you have Limited Leave to Remain or Enter you usually have no recourse to public funds. This means that you cannot claim most benefits, or have someone else's benefit claim increased to cover you. If a claim is made it may affect your right to remain in the UK.
You should seek specialist advice before going any further if you, your partner or child have Limited Leave to Enter or Remain."
