VWP and immigration control - visit

I wonder if anyone would be able to give me a bit of advice. I'm from the UK, and I'm going on holiday to the US soon to stay with my girlfriend at her house (we're going on a cruise). I'll be using the VWP.

Do I need any proof of commitments at home to prove that I'll be coming back at the end of it? Currently I just have my return flight ticket, a bus ticket home from the airport, and my employment contract. I'm hoping this won't even be an issue, but better safe than sorry. Should I get a letter from my employer?

No you should be fine with all of that as long as your record is clean, in fact what you have there is really much more than enough, a passport and return ticket would usually suffice.
