Refugee Settlement ILR

Post by Hass14 » Thu Apr 04, 2019 9:30 pm

Good afternoon
I came to the UK under the Syrian Vulnerable Person Resettlement (VPR) Programme and granted immediately when arrived, myself and my family, Refugee Leave to Remain status for 5 years. However, I'm now really concerned about how long would it take me and my family to wait for ILR when we apply for it in the last month of our stay. I have also noticed that applications should normally be refused based on the following: failure by the person concerned to maintain or accommodate himself and any dependants without recourse to public funds. This isn't the case of me and my other brothers as we work full time but my parents don't work and they're claiming benefits since we came here due to health problems.
Can anyone in this forum who has been through the same process advise me and share their experience so I can do something about it, or at least stop insanely stressing about it!
Thanks.

You can get ILR after 5 years as a refugee under SET(P). It will be free to apply.
Refugees can claim benefits from Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) as soon as they get their refugee status or BRP (click)

To confirm above, refugee settlement ILR is not affected by claiming benefits etc. There is nothing to worry about in this. Good luck, so sorry about Syria.
