Parent ILR BRP for Child Passport Renewal

Post by ranarehan » Sat Apr 13, 2019 11:59 am

I've just seen some posts(british-citizenship/important-return-br ... l#p1314950) giving me the impression that returning ILR BRP after getting citizenship is not a good idea because this might be required when applying for renewal of child passport (?) (there are related posts back in 2016 so I am not sure what is the latest on this topic)

I was holding ILR when my child was born hence my child got british passport straightaway. I destroyed and returned my ILR BRP when I got british citizenship year after. Will this cause me any issue when I apply for renewal of my child's passport or at any other stage?

You don't have to send child birth certificate let alone BRP card.
Just passport application form and his/her expiry passport. When you renew the passport.

The BRP is not usually asked for at passport renewal.

If you have a copy, it should be ok IF it is ever asked for.

Might be worth obtaining your SAR from HO and keeping it safe as this will detail your grant of ILR too.

Will this cover what I want:
an electronic summary of your immigration history

Yes, and I would go for the detailed summary to keep on file in case it is every needed.

Alright.

When planning for more kids while staying and working in a country outside UK, would the children born outside of UK become British citizen by birth and passport can be applied while staying in the country outside UK? (hoping its hassle free if its possible)

Children born abroad will be automatically British by descent and can apply for a passport directly. Note that they cannot pass their British citizenship onto their children if their children are born outside the UK.

Right. Moving to UK to work and live during pregnancy period is another option so that child is born and registered in UK at birth. Thoughts?

Your choice but yes, such a child will still be automatically British but would be British otherwise than by descent and can pass citizenship on to children born abroad who would then be British by descent.
