Hi,
My daughter was born in India but has British citizenship (by descent) from birth since I was a british citizen at the time of her birth.
We got her a Certificate of entitlement to Right of Abode on her Indian passport.
Now I am in the process of getting her an OCI. As a part of that I first need to surrender her indian passport and get a surrender certificate. One of documents required for surrender certificate is her naturalisation certificate - which she doesn't have.
Can we apply for a surrender certificate for her without a naturalisation certificate just by submitting her birth certificate per below form the VFS website?
"If the applicant is born in UK /abroad and obtained foreign/British Nationality on the basis of Birth in the country and not by naturalisation then applicant is required to provide a photocopy of the full Birth Certificate."
Similarly for OCI - the VFS websiste states the below as mandatory documents -
"Copy of Naturalisation Certificate, if applicable "
"If gained naturalization through any other method i.e. registration, etc. copy and original of the document confirming the same are required to be submitted. "
Since she was british citizen by birth she has neither naturalisation certificate nor registration certificate.
Would just a copy of her COE to ROA which would be there in her passport suffice as proof?
Is anyone gone through this process able to help?
