First British Passport

Post by jkproperties » Wed May 08, 2019 1:42 pm

Hi,
So my wife will apply for her first British Passport.
She was born in 1980 SA to a British Father, when we do the application online it asks for a Full birth certificate, we interpreted this as an unabridged birth certificate, but are seeing applicants on facebook groups are being told unabridged is not sufficient and a vault copy is required.

Is this correct?
I understand this is a huge task for South African Home affairs and some people wait many years for a Vault Copy.

Advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Jaco

Vault copy is required if she does not have the original that was issued stating parents name within a year of her birth as far as I understand.

An unabridged birth cert from Home Affairs will be dated from the date it is issued.

My vault copies took about 4 months.

Thank you for the reply CR001,
I will have to make use of an agent, we can't afford such a delay at this stage of the process.
Thank you so much for your help as always.

I see Marriage certificate for my wife’s parents is required, would this also have to be a Vault copy?
Or would abridged suffice? We will apply for all of them.

Her parents are however divorced.
Thank you,

My parents are divorced as well but that did not matter. I submitted a certified and apostilled copy of the marriage certificate (not a ‘vault’ copy)
