I know that situation because I've been in it, I worked in America for 5 months after I left college and I've been over there quite a few times and had a couple of American girlfriends over the years, it was a very different country when I was working there though, I've been back a few times since and it has changed a lot.
I'm probably going to be looking at a move overseas in the not to distant future anyway because I'm not with a girl who is in the UK on a temp visa and we are planning to marry next year but I'm 5 years older than you are. My best advice to you mate is do a bit of research and get yourself on a career track if you can (if America is your number one destination then you really want to look at medical, accountancy or an IT specialisation). You're still young and all of the avenues are open so just think about what you want to do when you get to your destination.
Another thing to remember is that you don't want to live in the US on minimum wage, it's not like over here, the US government doesn't take extraordinarily good care of it's citizenry and it cares for foreigners even less. There will be all manners of bastards in that country just looking to exploit you and its much easier to fall into a poverty trap in North America than it is in Western Europe.
If you really wanted to I suppose, and you are your lady are serious about this then hypothetically you could get married and she could sort out her status with the Embassy and you would go with her as a legal spouse, but you wouldn't be able to work straight away after you arrive and even when you did find work it would probably be a lot tougher and more competitive than what you're used to.
