First British passport application

Post by Amina02 » Sun May 26, 2019 11:43 pm

Dear moderators,
I need help regarding my first British passport application. In few weeks time I will be attending my citizenship ceremony and then after that will apply for my first British passport. In the booklet for passport it says that if u were born abroad after Jan 1983 then u have to provide birth certificate which I don't have. Is it necessary to provide a birth certificate?

No you don't. Please read only what the requirements after if you are naturalised as British. The same form is used for many routes to British passport.

Hi CR001.

On my citizenship ceremony letter they have given details as how they will appear on my citizenship certificate. But the name at birth is left blank. Do I need to rectify it? Will it cause problem while applying for passport?

No and no. Mine was also left blank and I had no issues.

Is your birth name same as your current one?

Hi alsanober,

Thanks for your reply. Only my surname is different at birth. Because after marriage I took my husband's name.

Guidelines say that you need to provide proof of change of name if it's different from your supporting documents. Do I need to provide this proof i.e. a marriage certificate?

If your current passport is in your married name, this is sufficient. Don't overthink the process.

Thanks CR001. You are a star :) One last question please. In the form they have asked to list all of the maiden or previous names that an applicant has been known by. Should I provide my maiden name or just leave it blank?
