Submitting Original Documents

Apologies if this is covered in another thread, but I can't find an answer using the search function.

When submitting documents as part of a visa application (ancestry, so marriage certificates for example), are these required to be the originals or do copies/certified coppies suffice?

I had seen an article saying the requirement for originals is no longer applicable but wanted to check.

For applications in SA, you need to submit originals as far as I am aware. I had to a few years back.
