Child Born outside UK

Post by salman83 » Thu Apr 18, 2019 11:24 am

Hi,
Me and my wife are british citizens through naturalisation. My wife gave birth to our baby outside UK. But, Me and my wife live in UK.

I have a few questions: -
  • Do I need to fill Form MN1. If so, what sections do I need to fill in
  • Can I apply online. If so, whats the url
  • What documents do I need
  • Will the embassy issue visa or they issue british passport
  • For average time how long will the whole process takes.
Sorry, if this is not the right forum.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

You can apply for a passport directly. Depending on where you are applying from, it can take a while to be received.

Yes.

Copy of passport should be fine. You need to follow the instruction online when you apply.

So who will fill the Countersignatory. My wife is abroad. Can I sign it from my friend in UK. Does he need to submit his passport copy. He knows me and my wife for more than 4 years.

The person that signs needs to know the child.

The other alternative you have, as you don't state where the child was born, is to apply for the country passport (if it is one that allows dual citizenship) and apply for a Certificate of Entitlement to Right of Abode. Costs more than a passport but is processed quicker and then you can apply for a British passport once child is in the UK.

I am confused over here. In the form it says
I confirm that I have known the person named in section 2, or in the case of a child, the adult filling in section 9 (insert their name)
I have a friend who knows both my wife and me. He is from my village. He just came back from the village. He also saw my baby as well. Can he do it.

Is your friend British??

Passport counter signatories usually need to be a professional and I think British.

https://www.gov.uk/countersigning-passport-applications
If you’re applying outside the UK
Your countersignatory must have a current British, Irish or other EU, US or Commonwealth passport.

If they have a US, Commonwealth, or non-British or non-Irish EU passport, you must include with your application a colour photocopy of the page with their photograph on it.

Your application will be processed faster if they have a British or Irish passport.
Software Engineer is not one of the accepted professions. Note that 'Engineer' for countersignatory purposes refers to Mechanical/Civil/Electrical etc who are qualified and registered with their relevant professional regulatory body.

https://www.gov.uk/countersigning-passp ... ignatories

Have you thought of getting a Pakistani passport and applying for a Certificate of Entitlement to Right of Abode instead??

Child Born outside UK

Post by salman83 » Fri Jun 21, 2019 2:22 pm

Hi,
My baby is born outside UK this year. Me and my wife are both british citizens (through naturalisation more 4 years ago). Can i bring my child into UK through visitor visa and then apply for british passport from within UK. Is that possible. If so, what form do i need to fill in for passport application and what are the document requirements with it.
Many Thanks.
Regards.

No as a British citizen, even by descent, is not subject to immigration control and cannot apply for a visa to enter the UK.

I already gave you an alternative option!!

All your 'child passport' topics have been merged. Please read through the advice that has already been given.
