SIR and PR

Post by Wizard of Oz » Fri Jul 04, 2008 10:33 am

Hi friends,

I would like to ask some questions about SIR and PR.

Firstly what does SIR stand for?

I am told that those who enter via SIR are not eligible for benefits, and you have to stay for at least 2 years in that area (live and work there). And that after 2 years, you are then eligible to apply for PR.

Can anyone share any thoughts about this?

Also, so if you enter via SIR and then convert to PR, how long will it take in total (starting from SIR) before you can become a PR and eventually a citizen?

And if you enter as SIR, how long does it take for you to be able to avail of social/health benefits? Do you have to wait until you are a PR for this?

Much thanks! I hope someone will be able to share their thoughts on these...
