Employer obligations at visa termination

Post by williampereira0906 » Fri Jun 28, 2019 3:41 pm

My visa is due at the end of the year and my employer decided to do not renew my visa (I’m in the UK for the latest 3 years). What should I do? Does the company have any obligations with me?

Thanks for your reply. I was hoping that the company was obliged to pay for the flights back to my country.

Unfortunately not. If they no longer wish to sponsor you, their 'obligation' ends with your last salary payment. How you get back home if you choose to leave the UK is up to you.

Thanks again. If they decided to not renew my visa, is it treated as a dismissal and I can ask for my redundancy rights?

Not really no as if they don't wish to continue sponsoring you and your visa expires, you have no job and no right to work. You will likely find that your contract of employment also potentially has an 'end date' corresponding to your visa expiry date.
